Who Is Jesus Christ?

Jesus Christ is one of the most influential figures in human history. For billions of people around the world, He is more than a historical figure He is the Son of God, the Savior of humanity, and the foundation of the Christian faith. Christians believe He came to reveal God’s love and to restore humanity’s relationship with Him.

John 3:16: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

The Identity of Jesus Christ

Jesus is not just a prophet or teacher, but God revealed in human form.

John 1:14: And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us…”

His life, teachings, death, and resurrection are recorded in the Bible, especially in the four Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. His resurrection is central to the Christian faith, showing His power over sin and death.

1 Corinthians 15:34: “…Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day…”

Jesus is also deeply connected to the Old Testament. For example, in the story of the Israelites in Egypt, when the firstborn were struck down, the blood placed on the doorposts protected them from death. This event, known as the Passover, foreshadows Jesus Christ, whose blood brings salvation.

Exodus 12:13: And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you…”

Prophets also spoke about Him long before His coming.

Isaiah 53:5: But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities…”

The name “Jesus” comes from a Hebrew name meaning “God saves,” while “Christ” means “Anointed One” or “Messiah.”

Matthew 1:21: “…thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.”

Together, the name Jesus Christ reflects His mission to save humanity from sin and offer eternal life to those who believe in Him.

His Birth and Early Life

Jesus was born over 2,000 years ago in Bethlehem. His birth was miraculous He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin named Mary, fulfilling ancient prophecies about the coming Messiah.

Isaiah 7:14: Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Though He was born in humble circumstances, His arrival was announced by angels and recognized by shepherds and wise men, showing that His life had divine significance from the very beginning.

Luke 2:1011: Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joyFor unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

Matthew 2:12: “…wise men from the eastsaying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews?

His Teachings

Jesus’ teachings focused on love, forgiveness, faith, and the Kingdom of God. Some of His most powerful teachings include:

  • Love your enemies
Matthew 5:44: But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you…”
  • Forgive others as God forgives you
Ephesians 4:32: “…forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”
God loved us even while we were still sinners:
Romans 5:8: “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
  • Seek God first in all things
Matthew 6:33: But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness…”
  • Treat others the way you want to be treated
Matthew 7:12: “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them…”

Jesus often used parables—simple stories with deep spiritual meanings—to help people understand God’s truth and apply it to their lives.

His Miracles

Jesus performed many miracles that demonstrated His divine power, including:

  • Healing the sick
  • Giving sight to the blind
  • Feeding thousands with little food
  • Calming storms
  • Raising the dead

Matthew 4:24: “…they brought unto him all sick peopleand he healed them.

John 6:11: (Feeding the five thousand)

Mark 4:39: “…he rebuked the windand there was a great calm.

John 11:4344: (Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead)

These miracles showed that He has authority over nature, sickness, and even death. He also gave authority to us as His followers over spiritual powers.

Luke 10:19: Behold, I give unto you powerover all the power of the enemy…”

His Death and Resurrection

One of the most important aspects of who Jesus is lies in His sacrifice. He was crucified on a cross, even though He was without sin. We Christians believe that  He died to take away the sins of the world.

1 Peter 2:24: Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree…”

Three days after His death, Jesus rose from the dead. This event, known as the resurrection, is the cornerstone of Christianity. It proves His victory over sin and death and gives believers hope of eternal life.

Matthew 28:6: He is not here: for he is risen, as he said…”

John 11:25: I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in meshall never die.

Why Jesus Christ Matters Today

Jesus Christ is still relevant today because His message speaks to every generation. He offers:

  • Salvation and forgiveness of sins
  • Peace in times of trouble
  • Purpose and direction in life
  • Eternal life with God

A personal relationship with Jesus is at the heart of Christianity. Many people who believe in and accept Him experience transformation, hope, forgiveness, and new life.

2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Conclusion

Jesus Christ is not just a figure of the past He is alive and active in our lives today. Whether you are exploring faith or deepening your understanding, learning about Jesus is a journey that can change your life forever.

Jesus does not come to condemn but to save and restore.

John 3:17: For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Start by reading the Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John and you will come to know who Jesus truly is. Through this, you can experience a relationship with Him that transforms your life.
