Intimacy with God
Posted in :
Intimacy with God is more than church attendance, sermons, or activities. It is a deep, personal relationship built on trust, prayer, Scripture, and worship. It means knowing God for yourself, not just knowing about Him.
Why Intimacy with God Matters
No matter how many sermons we hear or how often we serve, if we do not spend intentional time reading God’s Word and praying, our walk with Him will feel empty. It is like a student who only attends lectures but never studies — growth will be limited.
True intimacy with God requires personal effort. We must read the Bible, pray, and reflect regularly if we truly want to know Him.
The Word of God and Discernment
God can speak through dreams and visions, but these must always be tested by His Word. Without Scripture, discernment becomes weak. The Bible helps us recognise God’s voice and protects us from deception, because even Satan can appear as an angel of light.
The Flesh and Spiritual Battles
James 1:14 reminds us that many spiritual battles come from our own desires. The flesh constantly fights the Spirit, and without intimacy with God, we can easily fall. A close relationship with Him strengthens us to overcome temptation and remain rooted in Christ.
Intimacy with God Is Personal
God does not relate to everyone in the same way. What God tells one person may not apply to another. This is why each believer must seek God personally.
When Jesus died and the veil was torn, it gave us direct access to God — no middleman.
Why Personal Relationship Protects Us
Listening to preachers is helpful, but we cannot rely on them alone. When people say they lost faith because of a pastor, it often reveals a lack of personal relationship with God. Knowing God for yourself keeps you grounded and protected.
Short Testimony
Even though I was born into a Christian household, and I thank God for that foundation, my faith was truly tested when I moved to America alone, without friends or family. During that season, God opened my eyes and showed me that I had been living mostly on my parents’ faith. Through correction and trials, God drew me closer and helped me build true intimacy with Him.
Short Prayer
Father, help me to build a strong relationship with You. Guard my heart from deception and false teachings. Let Your Word be a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105). Strengthen me to do Your will and to seek Your kingdom first. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
